Search for assets using barcodes or QR codes

Learn how to search for assets quickly by scanning barcodes or QR codes via the mobile app.

Why use barcodes or QR codes to find assets?

Scanning barcodes or QR codes allows you and your team to quickly locate assets via the SafetyCulture mobile app without manually entering lengthy display names or identification numbers. This significantly reduces the time spent searching through your asset list and helps you easily access your assets to conduct an inspection, create an action, or simply view more details.

If your organization manages multiple assets, you can easily create asset profile QR codes in bulk via the web app and attach the QR codes to your assets so that your team can scan them when they're on site.

Barcodes or QR codes must contain an asset's unique ID, display name, or asset type to find the relevant assets. We recommend using the SafetyCulture Android mobile app version 24.06 (or higher) or iOS mobile app version 24.08 (or higher) to use this functionality.

Frequently asked questions

Absolutely! You can enter the manufacturer barcode from your equipment as an asset's unique ID or display name. Then you can easily scan it with the SafetyCulture mobile app to view the asset.

Just below barcodes, there are usually human-readable numbers. Other formats may include letters or special characters, too. If these are not on your barcode, you can scan it with your camera app to see the information. Most smartphones come with built-in camera apps that can scan barcodes, but if yours don't come with that feature, numerous third-party apps are available for Android and iOS that can help you scan them.

Remember to always include all the human-readable numbers when you add them as unique IDs or display names for your assets.
