Frequently asked questions
We use an internationally recognized and trusted tax compliance provider: Avalara. They're a market leader in calculating sales tax in the United States, using the most up-to-date state and federal laws and regulations.
Each state in the United States has its own set of sales tax laws that apply to the sale of SafetyCulture's goods and services, which may result in us being required to add sales tax to your bills.
As the sales tax laws differ between states, we recommend that you contact your local tax adviser for more information relevant to you and your business.
Our responsibility to collect and remit taxes for certain states is frequently reviewed, based on various factors including:
Changes in tax landscapes.
Evolving guidances from each state.
Reaching threshold requirements.
Establishing a business presence in new locations.
A change in the number of our customers and transactions
As a result, we may be required to collect and remit taxes in states where we previously didn't, in order to remain compliant with state laws.
Sales tax rates are based on the address details you provide to SafetyCulture. By default, we use your company address to determine the sales tax. However, if the shipping address isn't available, your billing address will be used instead. Learn how to update your organization's company address.

No, our prior agreed terms and conditions remain unchanged. Our customers remain responsible for the payment of any tax associated with the sale of goods and services. If we're obligated to collect or pay sales tax, the tax amount will be included in your invoice, unless you provide us with a valid tax exemption certificate authorized by the appropriate authority.
You can check out the "Billing and Payment" section in our terms and conditions for more information.
If you report and pay your own use tax on purchases, please email us at tax@safetyculture.io with a copy of your direct pay permit or a statement outlining that taxes due will be remitted by you to the relevant authorities.
You are responsible for any duties, customs fees, or taxes (other than SafetyCulture's income tax) associated with the supply of any goods or services provided by SafetyCulture to you. This includes any VAT, GST, or other applicable sales tax, and any related penalties or interest, and you will pay SafetyCulture for the goods and services without any withholding for taxes.

If you have a valid tax exemption documentation that covers the period of service, please email us at tax@safetyculture.io within 30 days of payment for us to provide a refund for you.
If the 30-day window has lapsed, please contact your state's tax authority or amend your sales tax return to obtain a refund directly from your local revenue authority.
Sales taxes in the United States are based on the location of the reseller/partner, not the final end-user of goods and services provided by SafetyCulture. If a valid reseller exemption certificate hasn't been sent to us, then the relevant state's sales tax will apply to your bill.
Please refer to your state government's website for more information on sales tax and exemption forms.
We can't speak for other companies. However, every business has their own requirements and decisions to make. Based upon our circumstances and requirements, we're required to collect and remit sales tax, in order to comply with each state's sales tax laws.
We're here to help and provide insight where we can. For any further questions or queries, please email us at tax@safetyculture.io.
