What are courses and lessons?
Learn how courses and lessons in Training help your team retain knowledge and perform better. What are courses and lessons?
In Training, courses and lessons work together to structure learning, organize content consistently, and guide users through required training.
Course
A course is a structured series of lessons focused on a specific topic. It helps teams organize content into a clear, repeatable journey such as onboarding or compliance programs, so training is easier to deliver at scale. You can create and customize courses from scratch, convert existing materials using AI, or use ready-made courses from the Library to roll them out more efficiently.
Lesson
A lesson is the individual content within a course. It delivers training in short, focused parts that are easier for users to complete and understand. You can create and customize standard lessons using text, images, videos, quizzes, and games, or set up assignments, practical assessments, open discussions, and scheduled meetings. Delivering training through focused lessons helps users stay engaged and apply their learning on the job.
If you have SCORM (Sharable Content Object Reference Model) packages from existing learning management systems, you can also import them as lesson slides to your courses.
What lesson types are available?
Standard
The standard lesson type offers a wide range of slide templates to create fun and interactive learning experiences for your team.
Teach: Create visually appealing lessons with text, images, and videos. You can customize your slides' design, layout, and animation effects.
Quiz: Create different types of quizzes, such as multiple-choice, true or false, sentence builder, drag-to-match, and more. You can also add feedback to each question to provide learners with more information about the correct answer.
Engage: Create games, feedback, and a place where team members can collaborate by uploading their own ideas. These options can motivate your team members to complete the lesson and be more engaged in the lesson.
The standard lesson type offers a variety of slide templates that you can choose from to make your training more engaging. We recommend that you explore the slide templates and tailor each piece of content you want to deliver using images, videos, games, and more!
Discussion
The discussion lesson type encourages your team members to exchange ideas, knowledge, and thoughts with their peers and administrators. In a discussion, you can post a question or topic related to the lesson and start an open discussion amongst your team members.
This lesson type is only available to organizations on Premium Plan or Enterprise Plan.
Assignment
The assignment lesson type is a great way to test or check if your members have absorbed all the relevant information throughout the course. You can prompt team members submit written tasks, which you can grade once submitted and share feedback with them as well.
This lesson type is only available to organizations on Premium Plan or Enterprise Plan.
Practical
The practical lesson type is all about hands-on training and experience for your team members, which goes beyond traditional teaching methods. With immediate feedback and opportunities for improvement getting shared by the assessor, team members can track their progress toward mastery of the subject matter.
This lesson type is ideal for teaching a range of skills, from customer service to safety checks, and more to provide demonstration and a practical learning experience.
Meeting
The meeting lesson type is a fantastic way to bring your team members together in-person or virtually to align, reflect, or have an open discussion about the course. You can also add a recording link after your meeting is complete, so team members who have missed out can watch and catch up on the meeting.
